Meet the Auditor

Susan K. Simpson was elected Paulding County Auditor in November 2006 and took office on March 12, 2007. In November of 2008, Susan received the “Distinguished County Auditor” award for completing 100 or more hours of continuing education during her first term of office. Born and raised in Paulding County, Susan graduated May 1979 from Paulding High School. She received her Associate Degree in Accounting from International Business College in 1982. After graduation, and working in both public and private business for several years, Susan continued her education by attending evening and weekend classes at Defiance College. Susan graduated with the Bachelor of Arts Degree, majoring in both Management and Accounting in May 2004. She served for 11 years as the Fiscal Officer for Crane Township in Paulding County, as well as serving as the first Village Administrator for the Village of West Unity in Williams County. Previous employment also includes working as a Trust Administrator, an Independent Grant Writer, and positions in the accounting and business field.

Susan's professional memberships include the Government Finance Officers Association and the Ohio Weights and Measures Association. Along with her duties as County Auditor, Susan serves as a 2010 member for the County Auditors Association of Ohio (CAAO) on both the Agriculture Committee and the Property Tax and Valuation Issues Committee. Active in the community, Susan has been a 4-H Advisor, has also served on the board of Paulding County Economic Development, Paulding Chamber of Commerce, Paulding County United Way, and her church board.

Susan has always enjoyed working with the public and finds local government challenging and rewarding. Susan and her husband Charlie live in rural Paulding County. Charlie is a full-time grain farmer and also serves as a Crane Township Trustee. They have four children with their first grandson born in July of 2008. Susan enjoys following her children’s sporting events, 4-H, and many other activities as well as being active in their church.

Since taking office Susan has implemented new real estate/tax software that has allowed for improved processing and better public information. This includes the addition of the Levy Page to the office web site. Keeping with Susan's goal of educating and informing the public, the Levy Page allows voters to view ballot language and an estimate of property taxes for proposed levies as well as view a breakdown of current levies on their property. Susan has also made many forms available via the web site for additional convenience. In December of 2009, on-line dog license purchases were made available. Susan continues to write articles for the local newspapers and has made these articles along with additional information available through the web site.
